why are taxis in the philippines old, smelly and run down?

The fare would increase but knowing this country well not the quality of the taxis..! There are too many laws here already..but they are not implemented or monitored! We don’t need more regulation here but a change of mentalities.lets go back to values!

some cabs are fine, but the others suck… private ones are the better though, those you call on the phone and ask their service…

You would notice generally two things. A nice taxi is either run by the airport or is owned by the driver itself; or is run down and owned by a taxi company.
Its basically run down cause the taxi is being driven by different people on different shifts, the drivers take turns but the taxi runs 24/7. Drivers who own their own cab keep it nice and neat, driving for at most 10 hours a day.
Doesn’t really matter if you hike up the fare, if the cab company doesn’t shape up, taxis will still be run-down and smelly.

Mostly because Filipinos don’t give a crap about anything. Especially someone elses vehicle.

keeping cabs clean is not expensive. money should be put on keeping motor engine well-maintained. safety first.

Just poor maintenance. The important thing to them drivers and operators is the engine and everything that makes the car run after the first gear so that they can continue fetching passengers.
I would love it if the LTFRB would hand-down an order to improve their services and standards. But if it means an increase in fare, that wouldn’t be fair to commuters. Isn’t the fare already covering maintenance costs?
