Taxi fare from JFK to White Plains is about US$55.00 and may vary by time of day.
You can pay if the cab is equipped to accept credit card, if not, the driver may take your card and phone it in like what happened with me in Chicago.
Taking Amex would be up to the company/driver but since New York get a lot of business travellers (attorneys cominig to do depositions) a few would have the (expensive) meters ready that accept Amex.

Rather then spending WHOLE LOTS of MONEY, public transportation will be much cheaper. Also, remember there is tips,
Here is quote from Taxi & Limousine Commisioner.
“For a trip to the Westchester or Nassau County the fare shall be:
the amount shown on the taximeter which is calculated at the standard city rate within New York City and at twice the metered rate for the portion of the trip in Westchester or Nassau County. and all necessary tolls to and from the destination shall be paid by the passenger.
If the taxicab is equipped with the T-PEP system, the metered fare is calculated automatically by switching to Rate Code 4 when crossing outside the city limits.”
By public transportation.
Step 1: Take Airtrain JFK to Jamaica Station. Get $7 MetroCard. $5 to exit system and $2 for entry to subway at Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av station downstair.
Step 2: Take Manhattan-bound (E) train to Lex Av/53rd St.
During the weekdays hour, you could walk to Park Av/48th St Grand Central North entrance.
Step 3: From Metro-North vending machine, purchase one way off-peak or peak ticket to White Plains.
Step 4: Take Harlem Line to White Plains.
If you’re not near train station, you need to take Bee-Line buses.
